Training Band

Junior Band Junior Band

If you come to the bandroom at the Thorngate Halls, Bury Road, Gosport on Sunday between 9:15am and 10:15am you will hear some interesting sounds!

To develop new talent, the Band has set up a training scheme for young and inexperienced players, and this is the time when members of the Training Band are learning to play, receiving tuition from members of the Senior Band. Their ages range from 7 to retirement, and experience from 2 years to complete beginners.

We started this scheme in 2001 and quite a few players have come and gone, but we now seem to have settled with a core of players, currently 18, at various stages of experience.

The band also has links with Grange Junior School, Gosport, where one of the teachers is an ex-player of the Senior Band. A small ensemble visits the school periodically within the school year to introduce pupils to brass music.

Four members of the training band are already established with the Senior Band and 3 more are nearly ready. We are waiting for them to gain just a little more experience, before they can join full-time.
